Common questions
Does Health Vault read any lab's report?
It reads the values, units and reference ranges printed on a typical South African laboratory report, a hospital slip or a portal screenshot. If a page is blurry or unusual it will ask you to check what it read. Your original photo is always kept.
Is it safe to put my results here?
Sensitive details such as ID and medical aid numbers are stored encrypted, access is only ever granted by you, and every view is logged where you can read it. Read the privacy notice for the detail.
Who can see my record?
Only you, until you switch someone on. A doctor, a specialist or a family member can be given access for a visit, a week, a month or until you switch it off. A pharmacy or lab that has joined can ask for access at the counter, and you approve on your phone.
What does the emergency card show?
Only what you tick: allergies, medicines, conditions and two contacts. It is never your ID number or medical aid number. Every scan is shown to you with the time, and you can turn the card off whenever you like.
Can I keep my children's records here?
Yes. Each child has a record in their own name, with growth drawn against the WHO curves and the Road to Health vaccination schedule.
How do I connect my doctor's practice?
Press Connect a practice in your vault to get a one-time code that is valid for 30 minutes. Give it at the practice front desk. Records then arrive one way, from the practice to you. The practice cannot read your vault.
How do I install the app?
Open Health Vault in your phone's browser and add it to your home screen. The Get the app page has the exact steps for iPhone and Android.
Is it free?
Yes. Everyone starts on the free plan, with 500 MB of storage and every feature, including the emergency card. Vault Plus opens soon. It will be R120 a year for 2 GB, and each extra 10 GB will be R60 a year. Prices include VAT, and payment will be through Stitch (card or instant bank payment). See the prices.
What happens when I reach my storage limit?
Nothing is deleted and nothing is locked. You can still view and download everything. You just cannot upload more until you free up some space or, once Vault Plus opens, move up to it. The same will apply if you stop paying for a plan later.
Is the emergency card free?
Yes. The emergency card is always free, whatever plan you are on.
How much will 500 MB hold?
Hundreds of PDF scripts and results, and photos of documents. X-ray and scan images are much larger, so if you keep those you will probably want Vault Plus when it opens.
Does it replace my doctor?
No. Health Vault keeps your record. It does not diagnose, treat or prescribe, and the plain-English notes beside a result are there to help you ask better questions, not to decide anything.
How do I delete my vault?
Write to us from the email address on your account and we will delete the vault and everything in it. Practices you connected are told that you have disconnected.
